Everton U18s v West Ham U18s

Everton Under-18s came from behind to draw 1-1 with West Ham on Saturday.

A cold and swirling wind made conditions difficult at Finch Farm but it was the visitors who settled quicker.

The Hammers took the lead in the 20th minute from the penalty spot. Kieran Sadler’s shot struck the arm of Jake Adelson and Sadler duly sent Mason Springthorpe the wrong way from the spot.

Just before the break the dangerous Sadler was involved again when he turned smartly inside the box but fired his shot narrowly wide of the target.

Everton’s best effort in the first period was a close-range shot from George Waring that was blocked and scrambled away.

The Blues were much better after the break.

Courtney Duffus headed narrowly wide and Joseph Williams was unlucky with a well-struck drive from 25 yards that flashed over the crossbar.

Everton had far more possession in the second-half and got their just reward when referee Mr Rogers awarded the second penalty of the match.

Ryan Ledson was up-ended inside the area and he picked himself up to comfortably convert the spot-kick.

The home side then pressed for a winner for the Hammers defended stoutly to take a point back to East London.
