Everton U18s v Man Utd U18s
Everton Under-18s recorded a creditable 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Finch Farm after George Waring’s early goal was cancelled out by Jack Rudge in the second half.
The Blues striker was on hand to convert from close-range after good play down the left wing from Chris Long.
Matthew Pennington struck the bar before the interval and George Green was denied by an excellent save by United goalkeeper Jonny Sutherland shortly after the restart.
However, the visitors earned a point when Rudge grabbed an equaliser on the hour mark, hammering home after Everton’s defence sat deep.
Speaking after the game, Kevin Sheedy told evertonfc.com: “We played really well in the first half and scored an excellent goal and we went in at half-time deservedly leading 1-0.
“In the second 45 minutes we didn’t perform as well and United started to pass the ball and got back in to it.
“It was a tight game and it could have gone either way. We showed our battling qualities and a great desire but, looking at it, a draw was probably a fair result.
“It was a really good competitive game and the players will have learned a lot from it.”
