Everton U18s v Chelsea U18s
Everton Under-18s are still on track to qualify for the end of season play-offs after brushing aside Chelsea at Finch Farm on Saturday.
The Blues need to finish in any of the top three places in the Elite Group to progress - and they kept up their challenge with a comfortable 3-1 win courtesy of goals from Callum Dyson, Chris Long and Courtney Duffus.
The scholars led 1-0 at half-time after Dyson had broken the deadlock on 20 minutes with a neat finish.
On the hour mark, Long doubled Everton’s advantage after some enterprising play down the right wing from Gethin Jones.
Duffus put the game beyond Chelsea with a close-range finish 15 minutes before the end following more positive play down the same flank.
The visitors did pull a goal back late on but it was nothing more than a consolation.
“It was a good performance and we played very well,” Sheedy told evertonfc.com. “We totally dominated the first half against a very good Chelsea side and after half-time we continued to play well. To be fair, the second goal killed the game off.
“We are really pleased with how the players have improved this season and I think that has shown in some of our performances.
“We are in a good position at the moment and we still have a chance to get into those top three places. If we do that we will have got there on merit.
“We have got three games left and it is in our own hands, which is always the best scenario.”
Everton Under-18s now occupy fifth position in the league table, three points behind third-placed Manchester United but with two games in hand.
