Everton U18 v Arsenal U18
Everton's Under-18 side welcomed coach Kevin Sheedy back with an impressive 3-1 win at home to Arsenal.
The legendary Blues winger returned to Finch Farm earlier this week following his battle with bowel cancer - and his young side gave him the perfect greeting with an emphatic three points.
Everton started well and took the lead through Ryan Ledson on 15 minutes, with a long drive beating the Arsenal goalkeeper from 25 yards,
The Blues' lead was doubled on the half hour mark when Joe Williams fed Chris Long with a perfect pass.
The in-form forward made no mistake when one-on-one.
The visitors came back into the game at the start of the second half and duly responded with a goal of their own 10 minutes in.
But Sheedy's men held on and with 10 minutes to go, put the game to bed.
The lively Long orchestrated the move and presented George Waring with the simplest of tap-ins to make it 3-1.
After the game, coach Neil Dewsnip said: "We are delighted with the result - not least for Kevin. It's great to see him back.
"Chris Long has been captain the past few matches and that has added a new dimension to his game. He now shows leadership and his goalscoring run has been brilliant."
