Blackburn Yth v Everton Yth

A youthful Everton Under-18s side secured an impressive 3-2 win away at Blackburn on Saturday.

Despite starting the game with four Under-16 players in their XI, the Blues more than held their own against a Rovers outfit renowned for their physical approach.

And they showed commendable temperament after falling behind seven minutes in.

By the 20 minute mark they were level when Joe Williams, one of the Under-16 players, converted George Waring's knockdown.

It was 1-1 at half time but after the break Blues striker Chris Long took centre stage, putting his side into a 3-1 lead with a pair of left-footed strikes on 60 and 75 minutes.

The two goal cushion was vital as the home side resorted to long ball tactics to try and rescue a point.

And Everton were indebted to keeper Mateusz Taudul as he superbly saved a penalty before Rovers narrowed the deficit with seven minutes left.

But more solid defending from Everton secured victory.

Blues coach Kevin Sheedy told "It was a typical game against Blackburn, in that it was very competitive with a lot of tackles flying in.

"We finished last week with seven Under-16s on the pitch and this week we started with four in the team. They held their own both physically and in terms of the football they played, which is very pleasing.

"We are on a decent unbeaten run at the moment, we can play better football but we have shown what we can do in other aspects of the game. We always look like scoring goals."
