St Helens v Everton
Everton moved into the semi-finals of the Liverpool Senior Cup with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over St Helens Town on Tuesday evening.
All the goals came in the first half with Everton drawing first blood after just seven minutes when a low shot from Anton Forrester beat the home keeper and found the net via the foot of the post.
Kevin Sheedy’s young Blues came close to a second goal on 20 minutes when Chris Long saw his clever lob beat the keeper but bounce narrowly wide of the target.
North West Counties League outfit St Helens drew level on 25 minutes when Andrew Olsen planted a firm header past Adam Davies in the Everton goal.
However, it took less than 60 seconds for the advantage to be restored when Ryan Higgins scored from close range.
Just before the break Forrester dribbled through the home defence and was very unlucky to see his final shot strike the woodwork.
The second half was tightly contested but neither goalkeeper was really troubled and the Blues held on to secure passage into the last four.
Everton: Davies, Browning, Toure, Heneghan, Bidwell, Molyneux, Higgins, Grant, Long, Forrester, Thomas.
