Everton Reserves thrashed Wigan 5-2 in an action packed match to record their third win of the campaign.
Two goals from Shane Duffy gave the Blues the lead in the first half, with Tom Donegan also netting twice, either side of Kieran Agard's clinical strike.
Everton lined-up with Carlo Nash the experienced head amongst a youthful squad.
Striker Agard was handed a chance to further enhance his reputation, having made senior appearances from the subs' bench in recent weeks.
Wigan's team was also an inexperienced one, with Polish pair Tomasz Cwyka and Tomasz Kupisz given the opportunity to impress.
But it was the Toffees who stormed to a 3-0 lead at half time as Northern Irishman Duffy put his side 2-0 up with two quick-fire goals.
First, on 17 minutes, he nodded home a free-kick which was exquisitely delivered by Adam Forshaw.
And just five minutes later he doubled the advantage with another headed effort, this time capitalising on Shkodran Mustafi's excellent cross after a corner had initially been cleared by the Latics.
There was a blow just before the half hour when Hope Akpan was forced off with a knock - but his replacement had soon ensured Everton's momentum wasn't checked.
Academy midfielder Donegan sent in a hopeful cross that Wigan's keeper made a complete hash of, the ball trickling into the net for the Blues third goal.
The Toffees dominance continued into the second period and after 53 minutes Agard latched onto a long ball from Nash and volleyed home to make it four nil.
Wigan finally had something so celebrate thanks to a 56th minute penalty which was awarded after Jake Bidwell was adjudged to have transgressed.
But Bidwell made amends eight minutes later, whipping in a cross from the left that was emphatically volleyed home by Donegan.
The fourth goal of a frenetic 13 minute spell went to Wigan as Nash was beaten low to his left but the game was over as a contest with the 5-2 scoreline sending Everton away from the Latics, who were the only side below them in the league before the game.
