Everton v Carlisle

This is the sixth meeting between the clubs in all competitions, and the third in the FA Cup.

The Toffees have won the two previous matches in the competition, both at Brunton Park – 2-0 in the fourth round in 1968 and 4-2 in the third round in 1930.

The last meeting between the two clubs was a League Cup tie at Goodison Park in October 1975, which Everton won 2-0.

In addition, there have been two league meetings, both in the 1974/75 campaign. Carlisle won 3-2 at Goodison, after trailing 2-0 at half-time, and then 3-0 at home.

The Goals

There have been no hat-tricks between the sides.

There have been 20 hat-tricks in FA Cup matches involving Everton, with the most recent for the Toffees – and the only one in the post-War era - being Graeme Sharp’s at Sheffield Wednesday in January 1988.

Our last hat-trick at Goodison was Tommy Lawton’s four goals against Doncaster Rovers in January 1939.

The last hat-trick against us was Ian Storey-Moore’s for Nottingham Forest at the City Ground in April 1967.

The FA Cup goal-scoring records of the current squad are:

 Jack Rodwell  1    1
 Lucas Neill    1  1

The nine goals scored by Everton in last season’s competition were from eight different players, only Louis Saha netting twice.

The Players

The last Everton player sent-off in the FA Cup was Joe-Max Moore at Watford in 2001 with the last player dismissed against the Toffees being Lucas Leiva of Liverpool in last season’s fourth round replay at Goodison.

There have been no players sent-off in matches between the clubs previously.

Leon Osman made his professional debut while on loan at Carlisle in October 2002, the midfielder making 15 appearances and scoring three goals.

Any Other Business

Saturday is Everton’s 399th FA Cup match.

On the last six occasions that the Toffees have been knocked out at the third round stage of the FA Cup, five have been at Goodison – Oldham (2008), Blackburn (2007), Newcastle (1998), Bolton (1994) and Wimbledon (1993).

The only away defeat in that time was at Shrewsbury in 2003.
