Everton Res v Wigan Res

Everton Reserves were outplayed by an experienced Wigan side on Monday evening.

The Latics had a number of senior players in their ranks and ran out comfortable 4-1 winners.

Shane Duffy netted a second half consolation for the Blues - who were 3-0 down at the break thanks to a brace from Tomasz Kupisz either side of Antonio Amaya's well-struck effort.

Tomasz Cywka scored an easy fourth late on after a breakdown in communication in the Everton defence.

Callum McManaman, cousin of Steve, sent the first effort of the game over in the fifth minute and then the vistors took the lead 13 minutes in when Kupisz latched on to Rachid Bouaouzan's clever pass and adroitly lobbed Iain Turner in the Everton goal.

Jose Baxter tried to hit back straight away with a volley which went wide and then there was an unsuccessful penalty shout when Hope Akpan was seemingly shoved in the box.

But Wigan posed the greater attacking threat and soon doubled their lead when a corner fell to Amaya, the Spaniard finishing powefully on the volley from just inside the box.

Akpan saw his own forceful left foot volley well saved on one of Everton's rare forays forward but the Latics were very much on top.

Cywka speared a shot wide from the angle and McManaman had an effort deflected past the post before Kupisz lashed in a superb volleyed effort three minutes before half time.

Captain Duffy nodded over at the start of the second half but then he was outpaced by the speedy Bouaouzan and Aritote Nsiala had to clear off the line with Turner beaten.

Joe Holt hit a long range volley straight at Turner and Kupisz sidefooted wide after the hour mark with Wigan remaining on top until Duffy scrambled home a corner with 25 minutes left.

Everton threw on a couple of substitutes with time expiring but there were no further chances for either side until Cywka capitalised on a mix-up between Turner and sub Jake Bidwell to roll home the fourth.
