Everton v Luton
Everton moved comfortably into the next round of the Carling Cup with a 4-0 win over Luton Town.
The victory was every bit as smooth as the scoreline would suggest with Tim Cahill and James McFadden finding the net either side of a Keith Keane own goal and Victor Anichebe icing the cake late on.
Everton passed the ball exceptionally well all night and indeed it could, and should, have been more but Marlon Beresford had a fine match in goal for Luton.
Simon Davies, operating at right back, sent over some superb crosses early on, one of which was headed goalwards by Osman, only for the keeper to make a smart save low to his left.
The opening goal in the 23rd minute was very well crafted. Mikel Arteta swung over a free-kick from the right and Joleon Lescott climbed at the far post to head the ball across the face of the goal where Tim Cahill dived in to nod it into the net.
AJ gets away from Keith Keane
Spirited Luton posted a reminder when Warren Feeney’s overhead kick just cleared the Everton crossbar and then experienced striker wasn’t too far off with a header but a second goal wasn’t long coming.
Andy Johnson out-paced the Luton rearguard and when he squared the ball inside the box, Keith Keane diverted it past his own keeper.
