After hinting at a return to last season's high standards, Everton return to earth with a bump as they are beaten 3-0 at Tottenham - the first of four league games where they fail to score.
Next is a disappointing goalless draw at home to Southampton, before the Blues claim a point from their visit to Aston Villa. Finally, on 29 October, Evertonians have a goal to celebrate as Tobias Linderoth's header settles the Carling Cup second-round tie against Charlton Athletic - a match that sees Alex Nyarko's first senior appearance for the Blues since April 2001.
The month brings another milestone for English football's most famous teenager as Rooney turns 18 on 24 October.

Meanwhile, Everton's 124th Annual General Meeting takes Goodison Park on 31st October, passing without any major incident, although chairman Sir Philip Carter reveals that discussions for a shared stadium with Liverpool will be taking place.
"We were approached by the public sector and asked if we would possibly share the stadium that is being designed by Liverpool," he said.
"We have already had one meeting and another meeting is to be held in the next few days. We would only consider any plans if the financial benefits were for the good of Everton."
