There is good news for former Goodison Chief Walter Smith when he is named Scotland manager following the departure of Berti Vogts.

A wonderful contest at Goodison Park with Bolton ends in victory, with a Radhi Jaidi own goal deciding the match following two comebacks from the Blues. Duncan Ferguson and Thomas Gravesen cancelled out a brace from Kevin Davies, before the Tunisian sliced Leon Osman's shot into his own net with just six minutes to go.

The 2004 AGM is held at Goodison Park, with Keith Wyness outlining his three-year business plan to the gathering. Potential investor and figurehead of the Fortress Sports Fund, Chris Samuelson, is also in attendance.

The Merseyside derby jinx is ended on the 11th of the month. Seven years without a win at Goodison, five years without a derby victory and Moyes' drought as manager of Everton in this fixture is ended with Lee Carsley's rasping strike from 25-yards.

Marcus Bent heads home the winner

Following the win, the Blues go 12 points clear of their rivals and go second, albeit for 24 hours. Evertonians sing in the streets, the pubs and their house, much to the delight of the Blues boss and his players.

Everton are brought back down to earth with a 0-0 draw at Blackburn. Paul Gallagher has a goal disallowed for offside, while an injury time shot from Brett Emerton rebounds off the post, much to the relief of the 7,500-strong travelling support.

A loan request from Leeds United for Kevin Campbell is turned down, while defenders David Weir and Alan Stubbs reveal that they are in talks with Everton over an extension to their contracts.

Moyes' men complete the double over Manchester City due to goals from summer signings Tim Cahill and Marcus Bent, but there is no such joy in the next Christmas fixture at the Valley. Two late goals from El Karkouri and Hermann Hreidarsson add insult to a calf injury to Nigel Martyn and a three-match ban for Duncan Ferguson, who is red-carded for violent conduct.

In solidarity with Chang Beer, our sponsors, the club move swiftly to open a relief fun for victims of the tsunami in Thailand and Asia and appeal to other Premiership clubs to pledge money to bring aid to the affected people in the region. Within 24 hours of the fund opening, Over £1m is pledged by the top-flight teams.
