On This Day: 30/01
Everton appointed Gordon Lee as manager ON THIS DAY in 1977.
Lee replaced Billy Bingham who had left earlier in the month.
In his Everton career he brought in such players as Brian Kidd, Peter Eastoe, Gary Megson and Asa Hartford.
At first the club’s league positions took a turn for the better with the Blues finishing 9th, 3rd, and 4th.
But as the clubs fortunes declined the attendances at matches began to suffer.
With his position under review, Lee threw himself into his work, attempting vainly to revive the club. After months of speculation Lee was sacked by Chairman Phillip Carter on May 6 1981.
Everton beat Sunderland 6-4 ON THIS DAY in 1935.
The FA Cup Fourth Round replay was held at Goodison and the win saw the Blues earn a Fifth Round tie against Derby County.
Jackie Coulter got a hat-trick with Albert Geldard scoring two and Alex Stevenson grabbed the other.
