On This Day: 28/01
Everton beat Bolton Wanderers 2-1 ON THIS DAY in 2003.
Two goals from the in-form Steve Watson gave Everton a comfortable victory against the Trotters at The Reebok Stadium.
The Geordie scored a spectacular opener in the 33rd minute and then doubled his tally from close range before the break.
There seemed very little on for Steve Watson as the ball bounced his way but with his back to goal he hooked a wonderful volley over Jaaskelainen and into the net.
He doubled the lead in the 39th minute. Gary Naysmith's shot was parried by Jaaskelainen but he was on hand to lash home the loose ball.
The win, in front of 25,119 fans, kept Everton in fifth place in the Premiership.
Former Everton player Jack Sharp died ON THIS DAY in 1938.
After finishing his playing careers in football and cricket, he opened a sporting goods shop in Whitechapel in Liverpool and continued to serve Everton in the capacity of director.
During his career he played 342 games and scored 80 goals.
