Everton beat Sheffield Wednesday 5-0 ON THIS DAY in 1988.

Anyone who saw the three previous FA Cup Third Round clashes would have to say that both the Blues and the Owls were two evenly matched sides.

The three previous draws had all been 1-1 but this game was different.

From the first whistle the Toffees tore into the home side at every opportunity.

The game was effectively over at half time as both teams went in for the break with Everton 5-0 up.

Graeme Sharp scored a hat-trick with the other goals coming from Adrian Heath and Ian Snodin.

In the next round the Blues had to play Middlesbrough three times before progressing, eventually going out to Liverpool in the Fifth Round.
