The Russians cause was not helped by having Chislenko sent-off and another player handicapped by injury in a vicious match.
Germany finally won the game 2-1. Haller and Beckenbauer scored for the Germans while Porkujan grabbed a consolation for the Russians in the closing stages of the match.
Richard Wright signed for Everton ON THIS DAY in 2002 in a deal worth ¬£3.5 million, rising to ¬£4.5 million depending on appearances.
Wright made his full first team Ipswich debut on May 6, 1995 aged just 17 against Coventry City.
He moved to Arsenal for ¬£6million where he won a championship and FA Cup winners medal in the 2001/02 season.
After moving to the Blues, a string of impressive performances earned him a recall to the England squad.
However, his 2003/04 season was a nightmare as he suffered a mysterious knee-injury which kept him out for the majority of the campaign.
