On This Day: 24/01
Everton played the second match since their formation ON THIS DAY in 1880.
The Blues met St Peter's and won 4-0.
Although the local newspaper reported the score but omitted the scorers, it did give Everton's line-up which was: W.Jones, T.Evans, J.Douglas, C.Chiles, S.Chalk, R.W.Morris, A.White, F.Brettle, A.Wade, Smith and W.Williams.
Everton beat Oxford United 4-1 ON THIS DAY in 1984.
Kevin Richardson, Kevin Sheedy, Adrian Heath and Graeme Sharp scored the goals that finally ended the challenge from Oxford in the Fifth Round of the Milk Cup.
The game had gone to a replay after Adrian Heath equalised for the Blues at the Manor Ground.
Many Evertonians see that game as the turning point for the club's fortunes in the mid-80s as the Toffees went on to enjoy domestic and European success over the next two and a half years.
