On This Day: 23/01
Brian Labone was born in Liverpool ON THIS DAY in 1940.
One of the greatest players to have played for the Blues he spent his entire career at Goodison Park.
Surprisingly, for a defender, he was only booked twice in 530 senior games.
He was signed as a junior and joined the professional ranks in 1957, making his senior debut in the 1957/58 season.
By the 1959/60 season Brian was a regular in the side and helped Everton win the League title in 1963 and 1970 and the FA Cup in 1966, also playing in the FA Cup final in 1968.
A full England international, Labby collected six caps and was a member of the World Cup squad that travelled to Mexico in 1970.
He had to retire after suffering an Achilles tendon injury in the 1971/72 season.
