On This Day: 22/02
Everton beat Southampton 2-1 ON THIS DAY in 2003.
A truly stunning strike deep into injury time from Tomasz Radzinski gave Everton all three points at Goodison Park.
David Moyes' side did it the hard way, coming from behind despite beginning the match the brighter of the two teams.
So it was somewhat against the run of play that the visitors took the lead in the 33rd minute. James Beattie beat the Everton offside trap and kept his nerve to clip the ball over Richard Wright and into the net.
It was all one-way traffic as time ebbed away, but Southampton defended resolutely…until the 83rd minute.
Rooney's cross from the left was perfectly flighted and Radzinski's header was like a bullet as it flew past Niemi.
But as the seconds ticked away, Radzinski broke down the right hand side and unleashed a fierce right-footed shot which flew into the top left hand corner of the Gwladys Street goal.
The roof was almost lifted off Goodison as the majority of the 36,569 crowd celebrated another fantastic Royal Blue victory.
