Former player Jack Taylor died ON THIS DAY in 1949.
He was tragically killed in a motor accident.
Taylor had played for the club between 1896 and 1912 but his career effectively came to an end in a freak accident in the FA Cup semi-final of 1910.
During the match against Barnsley in Manchester he was hit in the throat by a fierce shot and sustained severe damage to his larynx.
