Gary Ablett was born in Liverpool ON THIS DAY in 1965.
He joined Liverpool as an apprentice in 1983 and made over 100 appearances for the first team before moving to Everton in January 1992 for £750,000.
During his Everton career he played at both left-back and centre back making 155 first team appearances and scoring six goals.
In 1996 he joined Birmingham City for £390,000.
He now works as Everton's Under-17s coach.
Everton beat Norwich City 4-1 at Carrow Road ON THIS DAY in 1986.
The Blues had already beaten Newport and Sheffield Wednesday and the win against the Canaries gave them a Littlewoods Cup quarter-final match against Liverpool.
Kevin Sheedy, Graeme Sharp, Trevor Steven and Adrian Heath all found the net on the night.
Everton were beaten 1-0 at Goodison in the next round although they did go on to win the League Championship.
