After losing 1-2 to Rovers at Ewood Park the week before the Blues gained revenge with a 4-1 win in front of 23,538 at Goodison Park.
Harry Catterick scored a hat-trick with Wally Fielding grabbing the other.
That season the Blues came second in the Football League North Division.
