On This Day: 18/06

Howard Kendall told Everton chairman Sir Philip Carter that he had made up his mind to leave the Blues for Athletico Bilbao ON THIS DAY in 1987.

Kendall, who had been with the Blues for six years, had taken the club to the championship in the May, but Howard was desperate to try his hand in European competition, as English clubs were banned at the time.

Everton began the search for a successor, with Colin Harvey, Kendall's number two, favourite to succeed his former master.
