v Tranmere Rovers

Tuesday 22nd July, K.O. 19:45 (UK)

On This Day: 17/11

Everton's first visit to Anfield for league points was ON THIS DAY in 1894.

The final score was 2-2 but the Blues should have won the match, taking a 2-1 lead thanks to goals from Kelso and Latta.

A moment of madness in the last minute resulted in a penalty, which Liverpool scored.

It came in a season where the Blues were to finish runners-up to Sunderland in the First Division.

Liverpool's battles were all at the other end of the table; they were relegated.

It would be another two years before Everton would again have to go to Anfield for the battle for League points.

Everton beat Stoke 4-0 ON THIS Day in 1984.

The win in front of a crowd of 6,705 ensured that the Blues stayed top of the First Division.

Adrian Heath scored two goals with the other strikes coming from Peter Reid (his first of the season) and Trevor Steven.

Everton finished the season as League Champions.
