On This Day: 12/02
Everton beat Bedford Town 3-0 ON THIS DAY in 1966.
The non-League side were a surprise inclusion in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup. They had beaten Exeter City, Brighton and fellow non-leaguers Hereford in the first three rounds.
Rather than switching the tie to Goodison to get better gate receipts they resisted the temptation, preferring to try to cause an upset on their own ground.
Everton were in top form though and overpowered Bedford.
Derek Temple scored twice with Fred Pickering grabbing the other on the Toffees road to winning the Cup.
The Blues beat Bristol City 1-0 ON THIS DAY in 1969.
Joe Royle scored the only goal of the game at Goodison Park in the FA Cup Fifth Round to give Everton a place in the quarter-finals against Manchester United.
