The win took the Blues back to the top of the table over Spurs, who had been held to a draw against London rivals QPR.
Goals from Derek Mountfield, Graeme Sharp and a brace from Republic of Ireland international Kevin Sheedy earned Everton top spot; which is where they stayed for the rest of the season.
