Everton beat Grimsby Town 6-3 ON THIS DAY in 1935.

The win, at Goodison, took the Blues into the Fourth Round of the FA Cup where they were to play Sunderland.

Albert Geldard scored a hat-trick, Alex Stevenson scored two while the other goal came from Jimmy Cunliffe.

The Toffees were knocked out in the Sixth Round by Bolton Wanderers.

Everton beat Newcastle 4-0 ON THIS DAY in 1985.

The win took the Blues back to the top of the table over Spurs, who had been held to a draw against London rivals QPR.

Goals from Derek Mountfield, Graeme Sharp and a brace from Republic of Ireland international Kevin Sheedy earned Everton top spot; which is where they stayed for the rest of the season.
