Fred Geary scored for the seventh consecutive League match ON THIS DAY in 1890.

He had netted Everton's consolation goal in the 4-1 defeat in the last game of the 1889-90 season and had then gone on to score in the first six matches of the new campaign, netting a total of eleven goals in those games.

Everton won the League title for the first time in their history in the same season.

Geary ended as top goalscorer, having netted 20 League goals.


Goodison Park staged its first match in the European Cup-Winners' Cup ON THIS DAY in 1966.

In this First Round Second Leg match the Blues played Danish club Aalborg.

Goals from John Morrissey and Alan Ball gave Everton a 2-1 win on the night and on aggregate after a goalless first leg.

The Toffees were knocked out by Real Zaragoza in the next Round.
