Mark Ward was born in Huyton ON THIS DAY in 1962.
Initially on Everton's books as an apprentice he was released and drifted into the non-League game.
After transfers to Oldham and West Ham, Everton signed him from Manchester City in 1991 for £1.1 million.
During his second game for the Blues the left-winger scored two goals against Arsenal.
In his Everton career he scored seven goals in 92 games.
He was sold to Birmingham for £500,000 in March 1994.
Everton beat Sheffield United 4-0 in the Milk Cup ON THIS DAY in 1984.
After a 2-2 draw in the first leg the Blues moved into the Third Round with a 6-2 aggregate victory.
The goals were scored by Paul Bracewell, Adrian Heath, Derek Mountfield and Graeme Sharp.
The Toffees beat Manchester United in the next round before being knocked out by Grimsby Town.
