The Blues stretched their unbeaten start to the season, including wins against Liverpool and Manchester United, to 18 games with the win at St. Andrews.
A crowd of 23,391 saw goals from Bob Latchford, Trevor Ross and Colin Todd seal the win.
The Toffees ended the season in fourth place.
On the whole this day has not been a lucky one for Everton.
The Blues have lost far more than they've won when they have played on 9th December.
In 1899 they lost 4-1 to Bury and in 2000 they lost 5-0 to Manchester City at Maine Road.
