The match was played against Liverpool and celebrated the 75th anniversary of the Liverpool County F.A.

Everton won the match 2-0 in front of 58,000 fans.

Eddie Thomas scored both goals for the Blues.

Four giant pylons, one in each corner of the ground, towered 185 feet high and operated initially with 36 lamps each.

At the time the towers were the tallest in the country.


Graeme Sharp scored a hat-trick ON THIS DAY in 1990.

Everton beat Wrexham 6-0 at Goodison after a 5-0 win in the first leg of the Rumbelows Cup Second Round tie.

The other goals on the night came from Tony Cottee, Neil McDonald and John Ebbrell in front of just 7,415 fans.
