Everton beat Fortuna Sittard 3-0 ON THIS DAY in 1985.

The European Cup-Winners' Cup Third Round, First Leg, was held at Goodison in front of 25,782 fans.

It was to be one of Andy Gray's finest performances in an Everton shirt.

He scored a hat-trick to give the Blues a massive advantage going into the second leg.

Everton went on to win the Cup in what was the Toffees' most successful season ever.


Everton beat Colchester United 5-0 ON THIS DAY in 1971.

The FA Cup Sixth Round tie was played in front of 53,028 at Goodison Park.

Howard Kendall scored twice with the other goals coming from Joe Royle, Jimmy Husband and Alan Ball.
