v Chelsea

Sunday 19 May K.O. 16:00

On This Day: 05/12

Everton were suspended for a month by the Football Association ON THIS DAY in 1887.

The Blues had fielded seven professionals in an FA Cup tie against Bolton Wanderers.

They were also punished by the Liverpool FA, who duly confiscated the Liverpool Cup which had been won in the two previous years.

The combined punishments disheartened Everton, who refused to enter the FA Cup in 1888/89.

Everton beat Leeds United 3-0 ON THIS DAY in 1994.

A crowd of nearly 26,000 at Goodison and the watching Sky TV viewers at home saw goals from Duncan Ferguson, Paul Rideout and David Unsworth help the Blues beat Leeds convincingly.

Joe Royle's Dogs of War went on to win the FA Cup that year beating Manchester United 1-0 at Wembley.
