Despite being held at home by Leyton Orient in the Second Leg of the Littlewoods Cup Second Round, Everton progressed into the next round 4-2 winners on aggregate.
Goals from Newell and Sheedy had given the Toffees a 2-0 first leg win in front of a 8,214 strong crowd at Brisbane Road.
Sheedy scored again in the Second Leg, with Whiteside grabbing the other.
The Blues were eventually knocked out in the Fourth Round by Nottingham Forest.
Tony McNamara was born in Merseyside ON THIS DAY in 1929.
He joined Everton in May 1950 and went on to make 111 league appearances as outside-right, scoring 21 goals for the club.
He was sold to Liverpool in December 1957 and later played for Crewe and Bury before retiring.
