Everton beat Stockport County 7-0 ON THIS DAY in 1940.

Steve Simonsen was born in South Shields ON THIS DAY in 1979.
He joined Everton from Tranmere Rovers in September 1998 for £3.3 million - a then record transfer deal involving a British goalkeeper.
His first team debut for the Blues came in season 1999/2000 in the Worthington Cup match against Oxford and, due to Paul Gerrard's groin injury in January 2000, he was handed his Premiership debut away at Southampton. His first full start in the top flight came at Bolton in November 2001.
Following the arrivals of Richard Wright and Nigel Martyn, Steve's first team opportunities became limited and he joined Stoke City in the sumer of 2004.
