The win at Anfield Road ensured Everton would replace Preston North End as League Champions at the end of the third season of League football.
The Blues still had two games left to play (both of which they lost) but they still managed to finish two points ahead of the reigning champions.
Robert Balmer made his debut for Everton in a 3-0 win over Middlesbrough ON THIS DAY in 1903.
The younger brother of Walter, who was also on Everton's books at the time, Robert finally broke into the side on a regular basis in 1905-06 and was initially linked at full-back with his brother.
Following Walter's departure he formed a partnership with John Maconnachie and made his final appearance during the 1911-12 season.
