Everton beat Manchester United 5-1 ON THIS DAY in 1961.

A scintillating performance from the Blues ensured both points as they kept up the challenge on the sides above them in the table.

A crowd of 48,099 saw Roy Vernon score twice, whilst there were single strikes from Bobby Collins, Jimmy Fell and Alex Young.

Everton finished the season fourth in Division One.

The Toffees won the British Championship ON THIS DAY in 1963.

Everton had won the first leg against Rangers 3-1 with goals from Alex Scott, Derek Temple and Alex Young in Glasgow.

The return leg at Goodison was a much tighter affair with Everton scoring twice on the night despite the tie ending 1-1.

Sandy Brown turned the ball past his own ‘keeper Andy Rankin to register one for Rangers before Young equalised at the end to give the Blues the unofficial British championship.
