Regional League football was resumed during the Second World War ON THIS DAY in 1939.
A meeting of the Football League in Crewe announced that after it had become apparent that the country was unlikely to be invaded games would begin again on 21st October.
The country was effectively divided into eight regions (there was a 50 mile travel limit imposed on the nation by the government) irrespective of their League status before the outbreak of war.
