On This Day: 01/10
John Ebbrell was born in Brombrough ON THIS DAY in 1969.
He graduated through the ranks at Goodison Park and earned England caps at Schoolboy, Youth, Under-21 and B levels during his time at Everton.
The hard-working midfielder played over 250 games for the Blues, scoring 19 goals.
John was injury jinxed – he missed the 1995 FA Cup triumph – and during his absences the likes of Joe Parkinson and Barry Horne prospered.
In March 1997 he opted for a fresh beginning and was transferred to Sheffield United for £1 million. His injury nightmares struck again when he broke a rib on his debut and was ruled out for the rest of the season.
Howard Kendall scored the winner at Goodison to knock Arsenal out of the League Cup also ON THIS DAY in 1969.
The goal ended Arsenal's hopes of making it three League Cup finals in as many years.
The match was a Third Round replay after a goalless draw at Highbury two weeks earlier.
Everton were knocked out by Manchester City in the next round.
