Martinez Claims Chairman's Award

Martinez Claims Chairman's Award

Roberto Martinez has won the Chairman’s Blueblood award.

The Spaniard has taken Everton into Europe in his first season at the helm and such an accomplishment has seen him rewarded by Chairman Bill Kenwright.

The 40-year-old has had the Blues playing some sensational football throughout the season, and will lead the side into the Europa League in 2014/15.

Addressing the crowd, Kenwright said: “Very seldom in life do you meet someone who just totally turns your life around.

“I met that person a year ago and who would have thought I would be saying this after this event last year. When I first met our manager, I thought ‘oh my God – this boy is special’.

“From then on in, it has been a season of extraordinary joy – and it is down to him. He is inspirational, committed and such a positive force that each and every one of us is beyond lucky to have him at this football club.”

Accepting the award, Martinez added: “I would like to thank the fans for two reasons. The first is to thank them for their patience in the early time of the season. The second is for the way you are with the football club. We are a unique family club.

“I would also like to thank the Chairman for his vision, his commitment and his love for the club. It is hard to imagine a successful Everton without Bill Kenwright.”
