Long Wins Academy Award

Chris Long has been named Everton's Academy Player of the Season.

The 18-year-old forward has been at the Club since the age of five and enjoyed an impressive 2012/13 campaign, culminating in a breakthrough into the Under-21 starting line-up.

The jet-heeled youngster showed plenty of composure in front of goal, netting 15 times for the Under-18s under the watchful eyes of legendary Everton goalscorers Kevin Sheedy and Duncan Ferguson.

Such form earned call-ups for the England Under-18 squad - a chance grasped with a goal in October's 2-0 win over Italy.

Operating predominantly as a wide forward, the Huyton-born youngster regularly features in Alan Stubbs' second-string squads, and netted a delightful first strike at that level at Tottenham in mid-May.

Upon receiving his award at St George's Hall, Long credited Ferguson for helping him develop as player.

He said: "It is incredible to have Duncan Ferguson as a coach. Working with him every day on the training field has really improved my game.

It's been a good season for me goalscoring wise. I scored more than last season, so that's all you can ask really."

Academy Player of the Season was sponsored by Moss.
