Goal of the Season

Goal of the Season

The Goal of the Season title for 2005/06 was hotly contested.

Graeme Sharp, the man who whittled the shortlist down to 10 of the season's best efforts from the boys in blue, presented the award on the night.

James Beattie was the recipient for his delightful chipped effort from the edge of the box in the 3-1 victory over Fulham at Goodison in March.

The selection was made by registered users of evertonfc.com. They selected Beattie's effort ahead of other such notable goals as Mikel Arteta's free-kick against Villarreal in the Champions League qualifier second leg, James McFadden's sweet 30-yard volley against Fulham, Leon Osman's crisp completion to a glittering move in the 2-2 draw at West Ham and Beattie's own solo effort against Arsenal in January.

James Beattie received his Goal of the Season award from Graeme Sharp

Beattie said: "There have not been too many (from me) this season but that was a nice one.

"Tony Warner, who was in goal for Fulham, is a friend of a friend so it was good because I also got the reaction from him after the game. It was nice."
