are you really saying..with this current squad ..if we dont lose any (including pienaar) and we add a couple....you cant see us challenging for a cup or for europe ? REALLY ?

all in the future at this time and with the current squad we are probably looking at the same again, a decent cup run and challenging for top 8 same as this year, top 8 could be anywere from 5th -8th, just dont think we have the strength in depth to push higher, and as for cup ofc i can see us challenging for cup , as i said same as this season, never said we wouldnt challenge for a cup did i, and saying if we dont lose any or if we sign players its all ifs and buts

its grerat having optomism at how we finished the season, but weve done the same last 2 seasons as well , so im not getting carried away thinking we will be pushing for more next season, will wait and see what happens in the summer

I often disagree with ya Johno but i am completely with you on this!

Judging by the end of season run, we'd be one of the favourites to finish top 5 next season - but so would Wigan - and we know that won't happen!

I'll stay quiet on judging next season's possibilities untl I se what happens over the next 15/16 weeks - or the next 8/9 weeks in particular!

i said same as this season is all i expect, which includes a good cup run as this season and finishing in top 8, which at this time is as far as moyes can take us, do you think with the current squad we can finish in top 4 ?

mate any team and manager performing and playing as bad as we were for first 4 months of the season are going to get stick and deservedly so, the last 3 seasons the first half of the season has been dreadful and players and manager alike deserve criticism, for whatever reason we do so poor for the first 4 months it isnt acceptable, yeh we pulled out some good signings in january, but we still had decent enough players to do a lot better, 2 seasons ago moyes stated hes got the best squad hes ever had and we were just as poor from the start as we were this, its not acceptable and something needs to change or will will only push for top 8 most seasons

couldn't agree more johno mate..and not disagreeing but the point of the original post was the "diatribe" most people on here wer coming out with...

YET when proved wrong AGAIn...it all goes quiet...

on your point i dont think we were playing too bad at the beginning of the season ..we were just not getting the results our performances warrented..just the same as the start of last season....i think we only had (2 games) ? were you could say we were really poor..imo..

Although I agree with your point Johno I think the way you have stated it could be misleading (or I have misunderstood you). "Moyes has taken us as far as he can" normally means we need to change the manager to move forward. Moyes has done an amazing job over the last 10 years and very much over achieved (I was one who lost my confidence with him early season and I stick by it as his formation, tactics and substitutions were poor and at this stage relegation was very possible).

The problem, as you have stated, is the lack of Money and for us to break into the top 4 we need a lot (we could do a Newcastle if we have a good start and sneak in but it will be very unlikely). From where we were at the start of the season we seem to be a more balanced set up and love him or hate him Kenwright is doing his best with little resources.

I really hope the UEFA finance fair play strategy works and is adhered to because with our youth set up and controlled salaries we could find that the big clubs cannot continue. Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal are not as strong as they have been in the past and with a good start who knows maybe we can overachieve.

taking us as far as he can isnt saying hes a bad manager, in the current climate unless we get significant investment i cant how much further he can take us, and i think in part moyes knows this himself.

but even if a new manager came in they would have to work under the same constraints as Moyes has to...AND would probably require a few changes to playing personnel as new managers tend to do..but they couldn't if we had no funds..so what would be the point of changing ?
