What is it that makes anyone want to defend Rodwell, im not going to say stupid crass things about him, but can you honestly name a game when you can say, yes thats why they say he is worth £20 mil, coz i cant. I cant even say he is worth £2 mil really, he doesnt affect a game in any way, he even says himself he shouldnt be about potential now, he should be taking games by the scruff of the neck. Now before you all point to his injuries, well think about it he just hasnt got it to play the Prem, thats why he gets so many injuries, so to those saying he needs an injury free season, it just wont happen......

If I had to think on this one I would probably have said something similar.

He had a superb game away to Man City and was having a superb game again the following week in the derby before that ridiculous red card knocked the stuffing out of him again. His confidence seems as fragile as his 4ucking hamstring!

I'd like to think he has the ability. I'm not convinced either way right now and we've already been saying for 3 years that he needs a run in the team for a season.

People also forget that HE IS A CENTRE BACK, he has ALWAYS played there until he came through into the senior team. But we are trying to mould him into a defensive midfielder.

I think he would be perfect for a sweeper role in a back three (3-4-2-1 formation). He showed that he is great at man marking in the Man City game and I think that he would be far more useful to us in defence than in midfield. Of course Moyes is far to unadventurous to ever play three at the back with the full backs playing in a more advanced position.

Since when has Gibson been a DM? He's not, he's more like a classic CM. Which IMO is what we needed alongside a DM in our midfield as it makes us more balanced. Playing DM, AM, AM isn't good for us as it leaves us with gaps (or nackered players).

I don't think the problem is the team, the problem is the formation, and always will be until Moyes changes it.

The role gibson and rodwell are asked to play is exactly the same.  he simply does it better.  He's more defensive in his positioning that either felliani or rodwell.  Call it DM or CM or WTFEVERM it's all the same to me - it works.

Gibson can pass the ball much better the Rodwell and therefore we create much more when he is playing. I am not bashing Rodwell all I am saying is that we only need one of him or Felliani playing and in my opinion Felliani is by far the better of the two. If you look at the the games felliani and Rodwell have played together from the start you will struggle to find a victory. Then look at the games Felliani and Gibson has playerd together and we will see victories.

Its the same when we play Neville or Heitinga in there. We lose the ablity to pass it around and keep possession. Gibson is not an attacking AM and as xreyuk says plays the role of linking the defensive players with the offensive players.

Therefore as the title says I dont think it was Rodwells fault but the fact that we are playing one too many defensive players and not have the ablity to get forward. Spurs game is a good example as we started with Ossie in the middle and looked very good. The minute he was pushed wide and Rodwell came on for Drenthe we lost the ablity to go forward and hung on.
