Association with a popular brand also attracts fans. If we had no football in Britain, and a foreign team had "Drink Engish Ale" on its shirts, I would support that team. The TV companies would note my interest and broadcast more of that team's games, so they would get more TV income and more exposure and, therefore, more fans buying shirts. Given that China is the largest of the growing economies, I would have thought that a Chinese brewer, or retailer of any mass-market product, would be a better sponsor. I can't see much money coming from Thailand. 25% of its GDP comes from the sector called "Other". This means, in laymans' terms, selling sex to fat, ugly, skint Western men who can't get it at home.

It was more of a cultural point. Chang is owned by ThaiBev which operates in a number of countries including China and brews a wide array of geographical brands under license. Also, did you know those elephants on the chang bottle are actually from Denmark?

I'd push Real and Barce... and wouldn't be arsed with Everton other than to send a few million each year to keep the bigwigs happy that you're doing your job in England...

So we may gain some interest from association with those two more successful teams. Still not good enough though, is it? The sponsorship deals should work both ways- your product on our shirts, our colours on your cans etc. The deals should be exclusive, to create a familiar shared identity.

This board of directors seem to be weak, commercially. Still, they can't last much longer- they have flogged all the assets, maxed out the overdraft and Moyes has them over a barrel. I hope that someone with more ambition for the Club takes over. The sooner the better.

In fairness, that barca advert is part of a "regional" deal... its not like we'd be in that region is it.

ZoNG are a regional partner of Manchester United... but its not like we'd have them on our shirts. Still, the red devils get plaster all over Pakistani telecom ads. Frankly I wouldn't want Mister Potato on our shirts either.... but its all about the regional affiliation these days....which is something we seem to be slow out of the blocks on, but then you can understand why, when you have the choice there are a number of top clubs from all around Europe who are only too pleased to put something like this on their websites:

"Mister Potato, Malaysia’s No.1 potato snack is proud to be the Official
Snack Partner of Manchester United. With a history of success and not
compromising on quality, Mister Potato shares Manchester United’s
    commitment to excellence."

Which particular region has Chang with Spanish clubs on it? If it is Spain, fair enough but, if it is in an area which watches Premiership footy, then we are losing out.

Well, you'll be pleased to know we are losing out then...

Chang Beer sponsors Everton....Singha Beer retaliates and sponsors Manchester United.....Chang says_fuck you hows about... Barca and Real Madrid?

No one in Spain or England gives a toss, this is two far eastern beer brands using overseas football clubs to sell their beer to their own people.

    http://www.coconutsbangkok.com/sports/chang-beer-celebrates-partnership-with-barcelona-and-real-madrid/

The point was more about this type of sponsorship....overseas its all about the top clubs in europe and there are a shed load of countries to do the deals with....and then there is differing sections, beer, telecoms, fast food, etc.... but who in outer Peru is going to sell stuff to Peruvians by claiming to have a connection with Reading FC?

I am not pleased that we are losing out.

Regarding Peruvians, they have tellies in their huts, which they use to watch football. Even if they only watch the Man Utd game, that's twice a year they get to see Reading in action. Reading FC attracts some support and, if their shirts advertise a Peruvian product- bleach, for instance- that product sells better. More successful clubs than Reading- Everton, for instance- stand to gain more.

Wasn't the original piece written by some musician who's name escapes me,called 'Boys in blue'

Thats why z cars used it 'policemen in blue uniforms' & EFC adopted it.

~It was a pure coincidence they were both using the same tune.

Z cars was based in the city. Some actors from the show came to Goodison. To welcome them the club played the Z cars theme. We later adopted it as it was popular.

Hearing Z Cars playing before a big match at Goodison is one of the best experiences you'll get. I'm sure a lot of us have heard it hundreds of times but the feeling it gives will never be worn out.

I must chip in here. It was based on and in the Lancashire police and surrounds . Ormskirk area I think. Liverpool police only had Ford Angliers , they called them Panda cars . not Z cars which were much more powerful cars.

It was purely fictional... based upon Kirkby... so if you were to split hairs then not technically the city... forgive my over simplification of the merseyside/lancashire geography...

that's what I mean . The people who seen the first episodes of Z Cars are very thin on the ground. And it seems , going by the comments here, there has been a myth created around the origin . I ask again " Is it time to drop "The Z care Theme "?
