in all fairness mate, i dont see you on the forum much, but, what you do say and the contribution you make is usually valid, like my original post said, there will be people i've missed out......

maybe you dont see the people on the forum that have many aliases, of which im sure you dont have one, but for whatever reason, people feel the need to have virtual split personalities.......each to their own i suppose :)

    -----------------

to be honest i dont really see your point here sambo ... the fact that people have a virtual personality at all already indicates that our personalities are split ... there is the personality of direct interaction and then there is the personality of interaction via proxy which is what we are all showing in this thing aptly named a forum ... one thing i am sure of is that people are uneasy about the idea of restriction ... no one wants to have society moralize them or put undue restrictions on their behavior because of an idiocracy empowered by its sheer numbers so they want to have an escape a place where they can espouse their views without the social repercussion of betraying what their true intention or belief is (or at least what they view their intention or belief as being) meaning that everyone wants to be in their own formulation happy and for a lot of people, near all people, that includes human interaction of a direct nature that is of a positive exchange that may be inhibited if they act in a certain way or say a certain thing and thus a need to create another identity as a way of staving off all consequences

sorry for being so long winded

Ahh I finally see the purpose Sambo, so this list is some sort of psychological study that examines the typical blueroom user's multiple personality disorder and/or schizophrenia.. Count us, I mean me, in! =P~

no im not saying that the bs brings enjoyment im saying that the world functions on bs ... a bit like george carlin (he was more of a philosopher than he thought) but that the bs isnt bad or good it is just what it takes for the world to not rip itself apart ... the fact that the world needs this measure is shitty_and a sad reflection on either human nature or the distortion of human nature by civilization ... to try and put it as succinctly as you want ... people use diplomacy all the time and in a virtual world where people are so far removed from any consequence that could impinge on them they cease to be diplomatic ... there are a minority that obviously dont care what anyone else thinks and specifically dont care about what anyone thinks of them but in the main people are to the contrary ... think of how angry a place the world would be if the emotions channeled through cyberspace were to suddenly be thrown into direct interaction there would be a fight every 30 seconds

i see what your saying mate, however, i dont come across any differently in person than what i come across on here, and i imagine that most of the people on the list would be just the same, no need for the pretense to be somebody else...however, like you say, there will be many who (and not just on the forum, the internet in general) through the power of hiding behind a computer screen feel as though they can become the person they wish they were in real life.....its a little sad really, and people like that must live a really unhappy existence.....and/or come from a social surrounding where they don;t feel in control, or dont feel as though they can voice their opinion....maybe they are domineered by their wife for example? maybe its a lack of confidence on their part and the only way to express them selves is through the power of the internet??
