Everton dogs of war - spot the difference

I'm 21 and too young to remember the dogs of war. But I've seen highlights, interviews etc. and well, when you compare it to any team under moyes (as in all 11 players at once) I can't think of a team with as much fight and desire to win and go put your bodies on the line to win. Without question, the team last year in the quarter final wouldn't have matched the spirit of this team and it certianly didn't yesterday.
I'm jealous of people who knew everton in the 90's because at least you got to experience 2 last day of the season relegation battles and an amazing fa cup win.

Posts: 3,248March 10 You shouldn't be too jealous of missing that day against Wimbledon.....it was nerve-racking as hell....joe royle gave us some great nights though......but the 90's was a hard slog......
It mustn't be forgotten though, earlier this season, and second half of last season is some of the best football Everton have played since the 80's.....but for whatever reason, its all gone tlts up..... -

Not so much the day itself, but the celebration on the field afterwards looks immense lol

I can see where you're coming from. But when it really really matters, I just don't see any real fight. Just look at the interview and you can see the pure desire and will to win a trophy for everton and themselves. I don't really see that in the attitude of our team atm and if an interviewer had asked the questions to our team, it wouldn't have been as determined and would have been phoney and half hearted

beleive me the 90's was a terrible time to support everton. you should apprecaite being an everton fan since moyes took over because thats when things started improving. since moyes took over you've seen us finish 4th, 5th, 6th. you've seen us play some decent football. you've seen some fine footballers - arteta, pienar, baines, cahill, felliani. you've seen the yak bang in 20 goals in a season and you've seen us play in europe.
the team that won the cup had a hell of a lot of spirit but those relegation battles where horrendous experiences. nobody should be jealous about missing out on those. most of the players we had in the 90's were very poor and the football we had to watch us play was painful
the only highlights from the 90's are duncan ferguson and the fa cup.

I know. Just a bit down and low after saturday, so I've sort of forgotten the good times we have had under Moyes. It's just the whole attitude of the team really. WHen the going gets tough, they don't deliver and it seems as if they don't bother either. I admire this 95 team though- real fighters and that's what everton is all about, but it seems to be missing today in the modern game :(

I was referring to the interviews, and the players' desire and will to do anything they could to win the fa cup. Just don't see that from our current team, and the interviews this year and last year seem a bit staged, fake and phoney. you can tell this 95 team meant it and wanted to put their bodies on the line, that is the difference lol

Have to say I thoroughly enjoyed re-living those moments. A few things stood out:
Joe Royle - what a class act in victory
Alex Ferguson - no tantrums on the sideline but still a face like a farmer's a_rse on a Sunday morning
Gary Ablett - gone too soon. RIP
Neville Southall - what a legend. Looks so unfit by today's standards but so much heart and such a humble man.
Dave Watson - guts, pride & passion. An inspirational captain.
Joe Parkinson - used to be a Manc but saw the light
Mark Hughes - was he grey even then?!!
I still remember that day. But it's a different game now. Not about the team. More about individuals & their bank accounts.

Posts: 5,468March 11 it must be so hard for younger evertonians who cant remember us winning anything, ive got my eighties memories and 95 was a great occasion, i cant imagine how it must feel when you have never seen us winning anything, it must make saturdays result even more depressing and hard to take. must be worse than trying to lose your virginity at least you can pay for that we cant afford to buy a trophy :))
