One point not many people are talking about on this subject is the transportation costs and how it relate4s to our country....although I suppose thats not a great point to make when you are trying to blame everyone else.

Horse meat in France has a domestic market and its value is such.

Horse meat in England has a similar value, minus the cost to transporting it to France.... which only adds to the profit someone pulling this stunt in the UK can make.

Lets be fair though, there are people now in this country now who can scarcely afford to eat a scabby horse sold to them as a beef lasagne.... its more than a little_fucked isn't it. Still, just imagine the money the country will save taking some benefits off the disabled for every room in their house they don't actually require.

Had Ostrich, Crocodile & Kudu in South Africa.

It was Ostrich neck so there wasn't much meat on it.

Crocodile however was amazing. One of the nicest things I've ever eaten.

This is a v. good point. The cheap animals must be the ones which are not fit to eat- the ones without the correct documentation, so carry a risk of having drugs in them etc. Otherwise, they would be trotting down the Channel Tunnel as we speak.

It's a white meat, bit like chicken only far nicer, its a bit more dense so it cuts like a normal steak ie sirloin.

It's very moist, the way I like it

My point was more that if I were looking to take the risk of passing off horse meat as beef... I'd want to made the most reward. If I'm selling horsey beef to findus then I need a large and consistent supply... poorly, sick and unfit animals won't provide that. So how do I keep my margins high?

You'd want to find the right countries. A country that doesn't eat horse... that has light touch regulation, so I can do what I like unchecked inside behind closed doors. With plentiful access to cheap migrant labour who don't know any better. High fuel costs (required to transport the horses to a country that does eat them) will also help keep the purchase price down.

Granted there will be other places in the EU that fit the above fairly well... but while we are pointing the finger at anyone else... the UK looks as good a place as any to set up shop.

Apparently it's supposed to be more healthier than beef.
