Interesting article considering the costs and benefits of a new stadium which also considers the status of some teams who have invested in new stadia...

building a new stadium in liverpool is next to impossible without the cooperation of the council, and they have never been cooperative in deeds only in words.

first you need a site and that is hard to come by. examinations into the possibility of re-developing goodison have all been rejected as unrealistic for one reason or another. where will we find a site and how will we pay for it?

then you have the cost of designing and building a stadium, not cheap and i doubt if the banks will lend us that kind of money.

we need an investor who can build a stadium as part of a greater development, possibly a hotel/convention centre with a shopping mall and apartments complex.

can Liverpool generate the business to make such a development profitable in these difficult economic times?

Tescos' were prepared to go ahead but their plan was rejected. it is unlikely that another developer will offer us a deal like that in the foreseeable future.

To think we'd been in the Kings dock ages by now, all that revenue coming in, great footie team, trophies, sell out every game, i mean its just amazing what a new Stadium does for teams, just look at...............no, lets not....

I still think that we should approach Peel Holdings about a site on the North end Docks now that they are going to develop it. It would only be two miles from Goodison.

We would need to fill the stadium first, lets face it tickets aren't exactly hard to come by these days.

You create a fantastic stadium & fans will flock to it.

Highbury wasn't always sold out but emirates avgs full houses.

Cheapest option is GP redev' inc' PE car park hotel (our land).

Money is borrowed & payed back like every other club, business etc.

Its so simple, its a no brainer but we won't borrow 'cos BK wants to sell.

    "redevelop goodison..."

I haven’t seen figures for that but it’s probably too expensive given locations limitations. i know it has been looked at and dismissed as unrealistic, the stadium would be too small and the cost to high and there would be access problems.

that sounds more interesting, it depends what their plans are. the old tesco project was an incredible deal but i doubt if any other company would offer us a price like that. that was a once in a lifetime offer.

the  only other possibility, and thats now very unlikely, would be for the council to build a stadium to be used by both clubs.

it would cost maybe 150mill. the two clubs would rent it for 5mill per year each. the council would get their money back in @ 15 years and then they would own a property worth @ 150 mill. not a bad asset, and not paid for by the taxpayer.

it would take a lot selling, but it may be a good option for everyone.
