What is the money for exactly?

Are people paying to fix Gazza..... or are they paying to stop him from making an **** of himself in public and all that it reflects.... on football...on our national idols once they are no longer fit for purpose.....on celebrity?

No one was helping him before he got to this stage.... when he was out of sight, and probably at a point where it could have more easily been addressed.....people must have known how he was.

Its only when he's **** himself in some hotel lobby.... or, for example.... attended the final stand off in a nationwide murder hunt claiming to know the murderer personally and presenting himself, armed with some chicken, a fishing rod and some beer, as the only man on earth who can bring this sorry misunderstanding to a peaceful conclusion....its only at these extreme...and extremely public points..... that ex player associations....ex clubs.....high profile mates.....all spring into action.

There was a lot of time in between the day Gazza travelled down from Newcastle to save Raoul Moat's life and him sitting weeping and drunk on a stage in Northampton barely able to hold a microphone in his trembling hand.

Where was the help and the money then?

Its fine for Gazza to be out of his mind.....just so long as he's out of sight.

I'm in the unsympathetic camp too. He is definitely mentally ill, but how many mentally ill patients get the chance at the treatment he's having at the expense of his rich mates?

If he doesn't want to help himself, it's a waste of time and money. We're all masters of our own destiny (and minds).

I hope with treatment he conquers his demons and gets well. And he is a lucky man to be getting the best treatment available, unlike thousands and thousands of others.

Just think how much beer I could have bought with forty grand. I could cry.

Alternatively, give the £40k to the NHS. With that amount of money, they could treat two alcoholics, replace a hip joint or three, remove a few tumours and still have enough left to pay the quacks a bit of a bonus.

The real villains of this piece are the recipients of the donations- the trendy private clinics. These parasites are living off the backs of the ill and the charitable. I hope Gascoigne goes on a bender and trashes the place.
