The battle for 4th.....Everton and the teams around us......

Ok so I just wanted to take a more in depth look at recent form as apparently we are woeful at the minute and have no chance of 4th place against those around us so I've taken a look at recent form (last 10 games) and the final run in......I've included Chelsea who currently lie in 3rd ( You will see why a bit later) and also Swansea in 8th because Allseeingcuntface thinks we'll finish below them....

    Chelsea - Played 10, Won 6, Drew 2, Lost 2 - 20 pts

    Spurs - Played 10, Won 5, Drew 4, Lost 1 - 19 pts

    Everton - Played 10, Won 5, Drew 4, Lost 1 - 19 pts

    Arsenal - Played 10, Won 6, Drew 2, Lost 2 - 20 pts

    Liverpool - Played 10, Won 5, Drew 2, Lost 3 - 17 pts

    Swansea - Played 10, Won 2, Drew 5, Lost 3 - 11 pts

So it's pretty clear from the last 10 matches how we are doing against the teams around us - Same number of points from Spurs and only 1 point short of Arsenal and Chelsea's haul over the last 10 matches.

Liverpool are 2 points worse off while Swansea don't even come into consideration.

So now let's look at the final league run-in for these teams......and also consider that Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal still have European games with Chelsea and Arsenal also still in the FA Cup.

    Chelsea

    Chelsea V Wigan
    Man City V Chelsea
    Chelsea V West Brom
    Fulham V Chelsea
    Chelsea V West Ham
    Southampton V Chelsea
    Chelsea V Sunderland
    Chelsea V Tottenham
    Liverpool V Chelsea
    Chelsea V Swansea
    Man Utd V Chelsea
    Aston Villa V Chelsea
    Chelsea V Everton

So Chelsea are still contesting on 3 fronts and in their remaining league fixtures have to play 5 of the top 6 team.....Chelsea can definitely be caught.

    Spurs

    Tottenham V Newcastle
    West Ham V Tottenham
    Tottenham V Arsenal
    Liverpool V Tottenham
    Tottenham V Fulham
    Swansea V Tottenham
    Tottenham V Everton
    Chelsea V Tottenham
    Tottenham V Man City
    Wigan V Tottenham
    Tottenham V Southampton
    Stoke V Tottenham
    Tottenham V Sunderland

Tottenham have 4 London Derbies and 4 matches against top 6 opposition.....with an eye on the Euro League we can hope they progress to the next round.....Spurs can be caught.

    Everton

    Man Utd V Everton
    Norwich V Everton
    Everton V Reading
    Arsenal V Everton
    Everton V Man City
    Everton V Stoke
    Tottenham V Everton
    Everton V QPR
    Sunderland V Everton
    Everton V Fulham
    Liverpool V Everton
    Everton V West Ham
    Chelsea V Everton

So we have 5 games against the top 6 and 1 against Liverpool......tough yes, BUT, out of these teams we have only been bettered by Chelsea where we were the better team, we've beaten United and Spurs and drew with Arsenal, City and the RS....we can take points off all of these teams.

    Arsenal

    Sunderland V Arsenal
    Arsenal V Aston Villa
    Tottenham V Arsenal
    Swansea V Arsenal
    Arsenal V Everton
    Arsenal V Reading
    West Brom V Arsenal
    Arsenal V Norwich
    Fulham V Arsenal
    Arsenal V Man Utd
    QPR V Arsenal
    Arsenal V Wigan
    Newcastle V Arsenal

So Arsenal seem to have an easier run in playing the top 6 only 3 times, however again, they are competing in 3 competitions and have tough derbies and away games. We also still have a slender lead over them meaning that they will have to better us by one result during the run in.

and finally.......( cos let's face it I've went on for a while now and Swansea have no chance)

    Liverpool

    Liverpool V West Brom
    Liverpool V Swansea
    Wigan V Liverpool
    Liverpool V Tottenham
    Southampton V Liverpool
    Aston Villa V Liverpool
    Liverpool V West Ham
    Reading V Liverpool
    Liverpool V Chelsea
    Newcastle V Liverpool
    Liverpool V Everton
    Fulham V Liverpool
    Liverpool V QPR

So clearly the RS have the easiest run-in on paper with only 3 games against the top 6, although in saying that they haven't beaten any of the top ten this season....they are still in Europe and have to go to Russia, fingers crossed they continue to win in Europe. We're also 6 points to the good on them meaning they have to better us by three results in the remaining including at least 2 wins more than us....they haven't done it all season, what's to say they'll do it now.

So to sign off, this is for all the doomsdayers and negative nellys who say we're not firing, that we're going to get caught.....I say this..... we will Qualify for Europe definitely with a fantastic chance of Champions League.

I believe we will get top 4 and I'll be right behind us all the way - I hope you will be doing the same.

Its admirable optimism. And maybe we do fair better against the better teams. If we don't make it then this season looks to have been one of the more easier chances to make that 4th spot.

Personally though, I feel we've just drawn not only too many games but games against sides we really should have taken all three points against. We've also been by far the better team in these games too. Which you could argue points towards Jelavic's loss of form a touch.

Also, it was clear that we needed to strengthen in the window given the position. And yes Fer was unfortunate, but you look at some of the signings out there like Micho and some of the french hord that newcastle have brought in and you'd have to concede that, bullying wigan out of a promising teenager aside, Everton and its scouting system did badly in what was a critical transfer window.

I'm not being negative. If anything maybe Moyes needs another go in the europa cup. If Fellaini does go then so be it. What I would like to see is Moyes winning something. Even if that means putting out a full strength side in the carling cup!

Great post that Winston, also Liverpool have to play some of those teams fighting relegation i think they play the bottom 6, which can be harder than mid table plodders like Fulham and that, should be an interesting run in especially if chelsea continue to implode!

Arsenal are the danger for me as they seem to be finding a way to win ugly which wasn't there at the start of the season

He likes long walks on the beach holding hands while dipping his toes in the water, he has a glass of port wth his tea each night to help him sleep and sleeps on a bed of clouds.

Come on, take a reality pill, we will lose at Old Trafford on Saturday, RS will get three points as will Spurs then we are one defeat away from being overtaken by the RS who let's face it, are coming into form with Sturridge on board.

What a pointless post...I fully expect us to lose a game or two in the final run just as I expect ALL of the other teams mentioned to lose games also.

I think you're thw onw who needs to take the reality pill or better still a positivity pill!!!
